Lives and works in Kortrijk.
-
Emile Desweemer (2001°, Kortrijk) brings a representation of how painting can playfully visualise heavy themes. Desweemer's paintings provide a broader view of how the artist deals with themes such as mourning, pain and acceptance. The works are not only individualistic, but also evoke a sense of recognition. The viewer is taken on an emotional journey, focusing on the contrast between abstract and figurative art. Emile Desweemer's work exudes a beautiful semblance of melancholy, in which darkness is often present as an undertone.
The images are often constructed from a collage form. The collage is composed of various fragments from different scenarios. The artist views his work as a representation of a memory, which is often composed of several fragmented fragments. Desweemer's work often has an ominous atmosphere, like a disaster waiting to happen.
